IoIC’s conference will provide one of the first opportunities to hear the latest thinking on behavioural change from Dr Leandro Herrero’s new book, Homo Imitans – and delegates will also receive a complimentary copy. Following on from his very successful presentation at the event two years ago, Leandro will build and expand on the concept of viral change which he pioneered, and which focuses on spreading change as a ‘social infection’ through small groups of influential individuals within an organisation.
In his new book, Leandro contends that the failures of change management programmes, performance within organisations, and even government-orchestrated social change interventions, all have something in common. He comments: “All these failures stem from the misunderstanding of the differences between two separate worlds, each with their own rules and their own tempo: the world of communication (world I) and the world of behaviours (world II).” Understanding and respect He believes that ultimate success “depends on mastering both the understanding and respect for the differences of the two worlds and the establishing of bridges between them without getting them mixed up. Management in particular has not learnt the distinction between world I and world II. It muddles them together as if they were one single territory. "The consequences are a series of messy and wrong expectations either about people or management systems.” Leandro practiced as a psychiatrist for more than fifteen years before taking up senior management positions in global companies. He is co-founder and CEO of the Chalfont Project Ltd, an international consulting firm of organisational architects, and managing partner of Viral Change LLP. He works with organisations on structural and behavioural change, leadership and human collaboration.
