Katharine Birbalsingh has been teaching in the state school system in London for more than a decade.

She has held a number of leadership roles in schools and appeared on TV, radio and in the newspapers, detailing her views on the changes needed in the education system.

Katharine BirbalsinghIn her last post as assistant head, Katharine demonstrated her commitment to improving education by accepting an invitation to speak at the Conservative Party conference.

This ultimately led to her losing her job.

Katharine's new book, “To miss with love”, outlines many of her experiences teaching in inner-city schools, and attempts to address the issues of why so many kids leave the state education system with so little.

Katharine told delegates: “If you don't passionately believe in something you are trying to sell to someone else, then they are not going to believe in it either.

“If there aren't people who dislike you, then you are doing something wrong.”
