CiB chairman Suzanne Peck opens the conference. The two-day CiB Conference in Brighton is under way. Suzanne Peck, CiB chairman, welcomed delegates, saying that the theme of the conference this year is change, engagement and communication.

She added: “Change has two impulses - one is external and include things or events that happen over which we have no control. The other impulse is affected by the changes we can influence, such as employee engagement.

“When employees understand their role and how they can contribute to an organization, they feel connected, they become advocates.”

Suzanne said that countless studies tell us there much work to be do because the majority of workforces, especially in the cynical UK, aren’t engaged.

She added: “Charles Darwin famously said: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

“As professional communicators, we need to be responsive to the changes that we can influence and to come up with the best solutions for the things that we cannot.

“Engaging, relevant, effective communications that connects employees is our skill - it’s what we are good at.

“And remember, change is inevitable - except from vending machines.”

Summaries of the events happening in Brighton will appear on the web site over the next two days.
