The evidence file will be completed in the cohort member’s workplace, where all aspects of the Diploma of Proficiency in Internal Communication will be monitored and advised upon by an internal sponsor – often a line manager – or by an external IoIC mentor.
To gain the qualification, a candidate will, over a six-month period, have to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:
- A basic understanding of what internal communication is and where it fits into his or her organisation;
- A basic knowledge of different audiences, messages and media with specific examples of how this knowledge has been applied;
- Examples of how basic planning and prioritising principles have been applied by the cohort member;
- An example of supporting colleagues in the delivery of a specific communication campaign;
- A basic knowledge of legal issues relevant to the sector;
- Examples of the ability to research information accurately for dissemination to an internal audience;
- Examples of the ability to conduct one-to-one interviews to gain accurate information for dissemination to an internal audience;
- Examples of the ability to write accurate, simple communications for a variety of channels in an appropriate style for the audience, using plain English and correct grammar;
- Examples of the ability to sub-edit accurately and improve colleagues’ work ready for publication;
- Examples of accurate proof reading and correction;
- Examples demonstrating commissioning of, or competence in, basic photography and design;
- Examples demonstrating a basic understanding of a variety of different communication channels and techniques;
- Examples of working effectively with internal or external clients and suppliers;
- An understanding of ethical considerations as they apply to internal communication;
- A basic understanding of effective practice when running or attending a meeting;
- Examples of team working;
- Examples of internal communications networking and professional development;
- Examples of inter-personal communication
The evidence file must be submitted to the Knight Train & Consult diploma organising team on or before the date of the cohort final examination. Missing this deadline is an automatic fail of the evidence file section and will mean a re-sit.
