The charity raffle held at the recent IoIC Scotland awards dinner raised £850 for children’s charity Forth Children’s Theatre.

Established in 1979, FCT was formed in response to the need to give young people the opportunity to perform on stage without the need for deep parental pockets, exceptional talent or the need to conform to any artistic or cultural stereotypes.

In short, FCT Inadvertently set out to be the musical theatre for Everyman.

More than 30 years later they strive to deliver a high-quality experience for the young people of Edinburgh and the Lothians in a caring and supportive environment where background and status are immaterial.

FCT aims to create a safe place for young people to take a creative risk and to be rewarded with a lifetime of friendship and extraordinary memories.

In all that time FCT has not received a penny of public sector funding, yet maintains a quality stage opportunity for between 50 and 100 young people every year with a membership fee of only £3 a year. In this time they have won 14 theatre awards. They achieve this through the goodwill and generosity of their 100+ adult supporters who give all of their time for free.

But it’s a tough climate out there and the cost of putting quality stage shows on costs ever more (nearly £20,000 for The Fringe alone) so FCT rely heavily on the support of corporate goodwill in advertising and sponsorship.

Commenting on the amount, Roy Carter, IoIC Scotland Regional Director, said: “I’m delighted that IoIC Scotland has yet again raised a significant sum for charity. My thanks to everyone who gave so generously and to La Tasca, Waitrose, Ghillie Dhu, Petals by the Shore, The Murrayfield Bar, The George Hotel and IoIC for donating the raffle prizes.”

Mark Gorman, FCT Chairman added: “FCT are deeply grateful to IoIC for choosing to support us in our quest to give the young people of Edinburgh and the Lothians life changing opportunities that constantly surprise and delight us and our audiences alike.”
