The UK Speechwriters’ Guild is offering IoIC members a £50 discount to its one-day spring conference in February. The guild provides training for speechwriters who work in international politics and commerce. Alexei Kapterev, one of the world’s leading experts on presentations, will be addressing the first spring conference of the UK Speechwriters’ Guild on Thursday February 23 at the Institute for Government in London.
Kapterev published a presentation on the internet titled, Death by PowerPoint, which has attracted over a million views. He teaches at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Moscow State University. He is also the author of Presentation Secrets published by Wiley in 2011. Also speaking will be Phil Collins, columnist on The Times and former speechwriter to Tony Blair. Leon Conrad, founder of the Academy of Rhetoric, will be talking about the basic principles of constructing a speech. Ben Duncan, from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, will be explaining how to write for non-native English speaking audiences and Renée Broekmeulen will describe her experiences working for the Dutch Government. Bournemouth University Media School will run a seminar applying recent academic research into how to connect with audiences, hosted by Howell James, the former permanent secretary for Government communications and now head of corporate affairs at Barclays.
