Course: Faster approvals & better engagement 12 July
Training
Tuesday, 04 October 2011 00:00

If you sometimes have to deal with tortuous approvals, the cost can be more than just people's stress and frustration levels or dents in their confidence.

There's also:

  • The cost of paying for the approvers' time, and extra writer's time
  • The loss of those people's productivity (what they could be doing instead)
  • Uncomfortable compromises on the quality of the finished product
  • The impact of those compromises on employee audiences

And on top of these, sometimes there can also be:

  • Higher supplier bills (agencies or printers) because of rework or tighter deadlines
  • A danger of delays making the communication redundant (so it's not just the approvals time that's been wasted)

Many people say there's nothing to be done about it, but they're wrong.  You can permanently speed up the approvals process and, in doing so, make yourself, your communication approvers and your organisation more productive.

In this groundbreaking workshop you'll learn:

Faster approvals
1. How to separate the 'content debate' from the 'style debate'
2. The thinking processes that people use (unconsciously) when approving comms
3. How these processes can make them feel needlessly uncomfortable with the text they're approving
4. How to give approvers a 'vocabulary' with which to understand how they're doing what they're doing
5. A set of procedures you can introduce into the organisation, to speed up the process permanently

Better engagement
Apart from learning how to eliminate the uncomfortable compromises, you'll also discover the six 'linguistic triggers' that can make internal audiences unconsciously switch off.

Unique to Internal Communication, these triggers sit beyond the traditional rules of grammar and syntax, and can cause wholesale IC failures.  And because they affect audiences unconsciously, most organisations often don't realise any such failures are happening (or not until after the event - and even then they don't know what's caused it).

You'll learn what the six triggers are, how they work, and how to remove them successfully from any internal communications you work on.

Bonus learning - How to end writer's block, forever
Most people talk about 'having writer's block' - as if it's something they catch, like a cold.  But in fact it' a process; we have to 'do writer's block'; the trouble is, we do it unconsciously - each of us in our own unique way.  And while learning about the triggers and the approvals process, you'll also get to understand your own personal process for 'doing writer's block', and how to 'do writer's fluency' instead, if ever you might block yourself in the future.
