Objectives

  • to learn how to use a digital camera works and how to get the best results
  • to understand terms like megapixels, JPEG, ISO, RGB, CMYK and more.
  • to learn how to approach PR and editorial shoots and how to organise and pose individuals and groups, and
  • to use props to get better results. Imaginative approaches to subjects will also be covered.
  • to learn how post-processing with Adobe Photoshop or similar software can make a massive difference to the end result


Outline

  • The workshop will be a mixture of theory and practice. Delegates will actually use their digital cameras to shoot simulated editorial assignments. The group will then review these and discuss the end results.

  • By the end of the day you should be able to use a camera with confidence and publish your results. Delegates will have the opportunity to see lots examples of photographs to give you plenty of ideas.

Steve Nichols is a professional journalist and photographer who has covered everything from space shuttle launches in Florida to assignments in France, Germany, Singapore, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. He is also the author of the "The Secrets of Better Editorial and PR Photography".
