Award winners celebrate

The best internal communicators in the UK gathered at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank to acclaim the winners of the IoIC Awards 2014.

Nearly 40 award winners took to the stage to receive their trophies as class winners, while many more received ‘awards of excellence’ for their work.

Institute president Suzanne Peck – with a bit of help from the ‘voice of the balls, National Lottery announcer Alan Dedicoat – presented the awards on “the night when we celebrate the good – and the downright amazing – in internal communication today”.
 
She said the awards covered the channels, strategies and people that are making a difference – and judging had been tough. 
 
Alan added: “The judging panel has been wowed by the depth and quality of this year’s entries. With more than 600 entries and with three judging rounds, it’s been difficult in some cases to choose a winner for a class. 
 
“So remember, it’s a significant achievement to make the awards shortlist – you’ve beaten literally hundreds of entries to be here tonight!”

Winners of the Gold Award for the Best Digital Entry had travelled from Denmark for the ceremony and Kristin Staveli Pettersen (pictured above with colleagues receiving their award)from the Open agency said: "We're completely overwhelmed" after their 'One Spirit' campaign for NNIT had scooped a top prize.

She added: "NNIT wanted to engage employees with the 'One Spirit' phrase and we did it by getting them to show how they were living it with Instagram pictures - and now there are over 1,000."

Paul Smith of London agency AB, editor of Wow magazine for the Post Office which took the Gold Award for Best Publication, said: "It's absolutely amazing, I can't believe it. I'm really pleased for the team because we changed Wow to appeal to our readers after a survey revealed that many of them were women over 40 and wanted to read something in the style of Now or Take A Break."

Greg Stewart of Tesco (pictured above right with colleagues from Tesco and Mandarin Kite) was there to pick up the Gold Award for Best Strategy for Kill Spill, a campaign to inform the giant retailer's staff about the dangers of trips and slips created in conjunction with Hampshire-based agency Mandarin Kite. It was achieved with an animated character called Kill Spill who appeared in a fim and then a microsite and poster campaign. Greg (pictured) said: "I can't believe we've won, but it was an important campaign which has had a really positive effect on cutting accidents in our stores."
