IoIC Awards 2013: Winners announced

The best of the best in internal communication have been recognised at the IoIC Awards 2013.

Institute president Suzanne Peck - with a bit of help from the 'voice of the balls', national lottery announcer Alan Dedicoat -  presented the winners with their trophies at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London.

She told the 400 guests: "We're here to celebrate what's great and good about internal comms" and stressed that the judges had faced a particularly difficult year because of the strength in depth of the entries.

"It's absolutely fantastic," said Moira Throp (pictured below receiving the Gold Award from IoIC president Suzanne Peck, right), co-founder of Like Minds who struck gold, winning a special award for Best Overall Campaign for Training Tree, which was produced for the Spirit Pub Company. "It was amazing to win an award so to take gold for best overall was unbelievable."

The Training Tree was developed to make learning and development much clearer for the 16,000 employes of the pub chain. "Before there was no clear route," explained Moira. "But now the tree is a dedicated website where staff and managers can see exactly where their career path leads and book the training courses they need."

Another gold award winner was Penguin, the online "cheekier younger brother" of Project magazine for the Association for Project Management. Both are edited by Andrew Hubbard of Headlines who said: "We set it up a year ago to appeal to a different kind of project manager, probably younger ones. Penguin is based on 3-400-word stories that can be a bit playful as opposed to the 2,000-word features in Project - and it's really taken off."

Agency of the Year went to London-based AB (pictured above) and managing director Katie Macauley said: "I'm so proud because it was a really tough category - when I saw who else was in there I didn't have high hopes but next year is AB's 50th year so it's a fitting tribute."

AB also took top awards for Best Editor (Tory Frost) and Best Photographer (David Cotter and Stuart Howat) and Katie added: "I'm so pleased for them. Because I work with them I know they're the best and you can always tell a Tory publication because she works so well with the photographers, designers and te whole team. It's been a great night."
