Purpose We are seeking to recruit an Internal Communications Adviser to the firm’s Internal Communications team.
Our mission is to provide best-in-class communications advice and support to colleagues worldwide, to help build a better informed, better connected and more empowered Team Linklaters and to support the delivery of the firm’s strategy.
The adviser will:
  • Support legal practice groups and business teams across the global firm to achieve their objectives by providing excellent communications advice and hands-on support
  • Facilitate the successful communication of strategic initiatives, projects and campaigns
  • Support the managers in the team to ensure that the needs of senior leadership are met
  • Work alongside Internal Communications team members to ensure that we use our communications channels as effectively as possible and that we generate engaging and relevant content
  • Be a source of advice and support to colleagues on an ad hoc basis in response to challenges arising
Key Dimensions London-based but expected to maintain international mind-set; some travel may be involved.
Role involves occasional access to highly sensitive information.
 

 
Key responsibilities and challenges  
1 With guidance from the Internal Communications Manager, support legal practice groups and business teams across the global firm to achieve their objectives by providing excellent communications advice and hands-on support.
For example:
  • Assisting with stakeholder research and analysis, to help define communications objectives and key messages to support the goals of practices and teams
  • Providing guidance on communications tactics and channels; demonstrating keen awareness of best practice
  • Supporting the execution of communications plans
  • Advising on assessment and measurement of outcomes
This will involve building highly effective working relationships with practice business managers and colleagues in the Marketing/ Business Development, HR, and Corporate Responsibility teams, among others.

For example:
  • Working alongside the managers in the team to communicate the activities of and successes achieved in relation to the firm’s client and people strategies
  • Preparing key messages and drafting communications in relation to major strategic programmes e.g. Brexit preparation; US market strategy
  • Generally being recognised as someone to whom all involved in strategic activities can turn for advice on best practice and problem-solving
This involves liaison with the Strategic Initiatives and Project Services teams which work alongside the firm’s senior leadership to deliver the firm’s strategy.
 
3 Together with Internal Communications team, ensure that the needs of senior leadership are met.
For example:
  • Contributing ideas and content for monthly leadership team briefings
  • Preparing content for senior leaders’ town hall meetings
  • Preparing content for distribution via our global channels – both written and video format
•    Helping to ensure that communications about key hires, departures and changes of situation are executed appropriately
4 Work with Internal Communications team members to ensure that we use our global and UK communications channels as effectively as possible.
For example:
  • Proposing content that supports the goal of making global and UK publications as engaging as possible
  • Help ensure that there is a clear link between the firm’s strategy and what is communicated in our internal channels
  • Following up on leads as directed by the Internal Communication manager; researching and drafting regular features
  • Sensitively editing content submitted by others
  • Proof-reading and generally helping to quality control content
  • Deputising for the editor in their absence

For example:
  • Being familiar with our business continuity and major incident communications protocols and supporting responses where necessary.
  • Liaising with contacts at our alliance and ‘best friend’ firm network, as directed by the Internal Communications Manager.
  • Proactively building relationships with colleagues in the international network and being available to them.
