Welcome from the IoIC Awards Chairman
Logos Main Compressed

As I write this introduction, I am struck by how similar 2021 felt to 2020. In some ways it was even harder – the digital fatigue, the continued uncertainty. But there were also the magical moments – the coming back together and seeing colleagues in ‘real’ life.

As we start 2022, the uncertainty continues and we see internal communication building on the past year – the glue that holds our dispersed organisations together. We have proved more than ever how important Internal Comms is to the workplace and I have no doubt that 2021 will have produced even more amazing, award-winning work.

The IoIC is the only independent and not-for-profit organisation solely dedicated to internal communication. We exist to help organisations and people succeed through promoting internal communication of the highest standard. We have more than 70 years of experience in driving the profession forward through qualifications, career development, thought leadership and best practice.

Our Awards honour the individuals and teams who are delivering excellence across the whole span of internal communication. This year, our National Awards will give you the opportunity to reflect on your work in 2021 and celebrate what you achieved.

Just like the world around us, the Awards continue to change.  We have reflected on your feedback and that of our judges, and made a couple of changes this year. You’ll notice two new classes - Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Campaign and Best Hybrid Communication – definitely two topics that dominated 2021.

Last year we created a special COVID response class. It was our most popular class by far but we recognise that much of this work has now become part of our everyday world so please do look at the other classes to see where your COVID related comms best fits.

Our judging panel of senior and experienced professionals, experts in their field, rigorously evaluate all entries. Importantly, and unique to IoIC, you will also receive a written critique of your entry which will highlight what the judges really appreciated and some suggestions of what you might improve or develop in the future.

I had hoped that this year I wouldn’t have to put ‘we are really hoping that we get to celebrate with you in person’ but it seems I still do! Our Awards Dinner is planned for Friday 23 September in London. Last year’s was such a highlight for me – it was inspirational to have so many people together after so long and I am sure the atmosphere will be just as electric this year. We will, of course, consider current circumstances when the time comes, to ensure we can safely celebrate together.

Even if you enter every year, please do take the time to read the guidance and the submission form. We have updated some of the guidance, based on the judges’ feedback. In particular in the Channels classes regarding accessibility, the requirements for intranet entries and a reminder to include details of team members if you are entering a Team Award.

This year, we are offering a 10% discount for all public sector/not for profit/freelance entries and, just like in 2021, offering discounts to anyone entering more than three categories (and it doesn’t need to be for the same piece of work).

Please get in touch ([email protected]) if you have any queries about which class(es) to enter.

Good luck!
