The Internal Communications Advisor is a key figure within the central Internal Communications team, playing a significant role in ensuring the team meets its functional goals of:
•    Supporting senior leaders to communicate effectively with relevant audiences in the firm
•    Helping to deliver strategic initiatives and projects by contributing communications advice and practical support
•    Advising practices and functions on best practice communications to support their goals
•    Managing global and UK core communications channels effectively
•    Provides support and guidance as necessary to the Internal Communications Assistant.
•    The role involves access to confidential information and occasionally sensitive situations.


Key responsibilities and challenges

Supporting senior leaders
Activities include:
•    In conjunction with the Partner Advisory team, COOs and Business Managers, preparing and executing communications plans for new partner hires, partner moves and partner retirements
•    Providing ad hoc support to the Senior Partner and Firmwide Managing Partner including drafting written communications and preparing messages for presentations and town halls
•    Supporting the Head of Internal Communications in planning agendas for partners’ monthly forums
•    Supporting the Head of Internal Communications in preparing for Global Partners’ Meetings

Helping to deliver strategic initiatives and projects
Working with the Strategic Initiatives and Project Services teams to plan communications to support strategic priorities. This involves:
•    Stakeholder research and analysis
•    Defining objectives and messages
•    Choosing communications channels and timing
•    Executing plans
Areas of focus will depend on the strategic agenda at the time of the secondment – we will be rolling out the revised global vision and strategy for the firm following the March 2016 global partners’ meeting which is likely to involve new initiatives relating to clients, people and our global footprint.

Advising practices and functions
Responsibilities include:
•    Ad hoc support to practices and offices on profile-raising initiatives
•    Advising the CR/CI team on an ongoing basis
•    Liaising with colleagues in HR to ensure people-related communications correlate with other communications activities
This role also has primary responsibility for liaising with communications colleagues in our alliance and other ‘best friend’ firms.

Managing global and UK core communications channels
Working closely with other team members, sharing responsibility for global and UK communications channels, including Partnership matters, The bulletin and UK life. Specific activities will include:
•    Generating content, supporting our goal of making these publications as engaging and interesting as possible

•    Following up on leads picked up by the team

•    Researching and drafting regular features (e.g. Deal explained; Five minutes with…)

•    Offering ideas for new regular features or one-off articles

•    Sensitively editing content submitted by others
•    Proof-reading and generally quality controlling content
•    Deputising for the editors in their absence
