Welcome to the 2024 IoIC National Awards

A message from the IoIC Awards Chairman

Celebrating 75 years of inspiring internal communication

Justine Stevenson

Well, here we are already in 2024. Four years ago, little did we know just how the world would change forever. It remains an increasingly busy, still ever-changing world, yet last year we continued to show up and produce amazing internal communication that helps our people, and our organisations adapt and thrive.

I’m pleased to see that some things never change – we remain a fantastic, supportive community and one in which I love being a part. As a profession, we continue to demonstrate the vital role that internal communication plays in organisations and I am sure this will have meant some inspiring, award-winning work was produced last year.

It is always an honour to preside over these Awards but, I have to admit, there is something even more special about doing it this year, as we celebrate an important point in our history.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the IoIC. For 75 years, the IoIC has existed to help organisations and people succeed through promoting internal communication of the highest standard. It is still the only independent and not-for-profit organisation solely dedicated to internal communication, continuing to drive the profession forward through qualifications, career development, thought leadership and best practice.

Our Awards honour the individuals and teams who are delivering excellence across the whole span of internal communication. This year our National Awards give you the opportunity to reflect on your work in 2023 and celebrate what you achieved.

Just like the profession, our Awards continue to adapt to the changing world. This year we have changed and adapted some of the classes. You’ll see Best Podcast added to the Channels category, technology makes an appearance under Innovation and we’ve made our Skills Category descriptions, well, more descriptive!

Increasingly we have people ask us to share entries and details of why they were shortlisted or, indeed, why they won. This can be tricky as very often the information shared in an entry is confidential. So, this year we will be asking for an executive summary as part of your entry– information we can use when we announce the shortlist and the winners, so people can gain a better understanding of why they were successful.

Our judging panel of senior and experienced professionals, experts in their field, rigorously evaluate all entries. Importantly, and unique to the IoIC, you will receive a written critique of your entry which will highlight what the judges really appreciated and some suggestions of what you might improve or develop in the future.

We can’t have a celebration of Award winners in the IoIC’s 75th year just anywhere, so I am very excited that this year’s awards dinner will take place on Thursday 26 September at the iconic Natural History Museum. The dinner is always a highlight for me, the atmosphere is electric, but something tells me this year it might just be even more so. We can’t wait to share such a special night with you.

As always, I am excited to see the entries and wish all of you the very best of luck.
