This two-part virtual learning programme takes an in-depth look at the principles and practice of good practice communication planning in the context of organisational change, equipping participants with a robust process. The course is highly interactive, offering participants the opportunity to learn from both the course tutor, Liz Cochrane, and fellow attendees. Delivered over two live sessions and with activities to complete before and in between, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to successfully plan your internal communications and give you the opportunity to put your learning into practice.


The programme consists of

Part One (1st Feb, 13:00 - 17:00 (GMT))

  • Why plan? Key benefits
  • Developing objectives based on business need
  • Audience analysis: Understanding channel preferences
  • Communicating Change

Part Two (8th Feb, 13:00 - 17:00 (GMT))

  • Key principles for message creation
  • Channels: Choosing the optimum mix
  • Defining measures for outcomes and processes
  • Making it happen

Please note that we use Zoom for our online courses. Please ensure that you are able to access this system where you are based before booking your place. All times are in GMT. 


The course will enable you to consider the key implications for 

  • Planning to support organisational change
  • Integrating the principles of employee engagement
  • The relationship between internal and external communication planning
  • Crisis communication planning 



All participants will also gain:

  • Pre and post course access to Canvas, the IoIC's online learning environment, where they will find all course materials and be able to engage with their fellow participants
  • The opportunity to try things out in the workplace before coming back together as a group 
  • A network of like-minded professionals to connect with and learn from
  • IoIC members can claim 6 hours of CPD as part of the IoIC's CPD programme


About the trainer

Liz managed communication for major companies within the utility and pharmaceutical sectors before moving into consultancy and training. She now combines her role as Course Director of the Masters in Internal Communication Management with being the director of a small employee research company. Liz is a Director for the Institute of Internal Communication, with responsibility for professional development (accreditation).
