Job description

We seek an experienced Communications Officer to join our small friendly team providing expert communications skills within the IT Services department.

The post holder will be responsible for developing effective strategies with a focus on communicating the work of the department to the wider University. You will write high quality news articles for non-specialist audiences distributed through a variety of channels: our public website, newsletters, social media and events. You will think strategically about how to communicate in order to promote the department’s activities and achievements, tailoring for the audience and measuring the effectiveness of campaigns. Comfortable with working independently on your own initiative, you will also work with a wide range of stakeholders within the department and across the University.

We are looking for an individual with proven experience of internal communications, preferably within a large complex organisation with many stakeholder groups. You will have excellent writing and image management skills, keen attention to detail, and be competent in the design and production of promotional materials. Demonstrable experience of web content management, social media tools, as well as expertise with Microsoft Office applications are essential. An interest in the business of higher education is desirable. This interesting and varied role would suit someone who enjoys juggling lots of things at once, is solutions-focussed and is happy to be flexible to support the work of the team.

Please upload a CV and a supporting statement which demonstrates how you meet each of the selection criteria.
Closing date is midday 12 November 2018. Interviews will be held on 30 November 2018 in Oxford. Candidates selected for interview will be required to provide examples of their work and to undertake a short written test as part of the interview process.
