Refresh your grammar skills in this practical workshop. Whether you are new to internal communications or just need to revisit grammar and punctuation, this course will help.

Many people come into comms from different routes and are not necessarily fully ready for the demands put on their English skills by the constant need to write in different ways for different audiences on a daily basis – what is acceptable, for example, in an e-mail to an individual business contact may be unacceptable in a communication report to the Board. The key benefit of this course is to reinforce all the things people are doing well and to give people confidence that they can completely master the basics of their job.
  • Explain why some people may never have been formally taught the basics
  • Refresh the understanding of sentence structure and punctuation
  • Look at the most common errors in written English
  • Look at how company style dovetails in with the basics of English
  • Identify any individual problems and suggest remedies
  • Improve confidence – particularly when dealing with senior management
Sentence deconstruction – understanding the language of verbs, adverbs, adjectives, compound adjectives, nouns, proper nouns etc; punctuation marks -– when to use apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, hyphens, dashes, question marks and exclamation marks etc; specific comms punctuation – using quotes and quotes within quotes, using acronyms, using a company style book etc; the most common errors – the things we get wrong all the time; managing our managers – tips to help improve English understanding throughout our organisation
Please note: This interactive course is totally non-judgemental and has been created to help as many people as possible. It will feature a mixture of practical and discussion sessions and has been designed so that it is not a “dry eight-hour English class”. The tutor is basing the course on all the errors he has made himself over the last 30 years...
