How does it work?

How long does it take?

The Foundation Diploma takes eight months to complete. There are two intakes of the Foundation Diploma each year – one in January and one in June.

How easy is it to combine the Foundation Diploma with full time employment?

The Foundation Diploma has been designed to be completed alongside full-time work and offers opportunities for students to apply their learning to their work and vice versa.

The course is delivered virtually, meaning students can join from wherever they are in the world. 

How is the course delivered?

The course is delivered via a blended approach, with a combination of workshops, webinars, online courses and resources, independent study, discussion forums and direct support from your tutors. There are also a number of optional drop-in sessions across the course to discuss student progress and answer any queries. 

In addition to a half-day induction, there will be three half-day teaching sessions and three webinars. Students will be required to spend time on their own reading and independent study in addition to the teaching sessions, as well as on writing assignments and preparing for the final exam and interview.

How will I be assessed?

Foundation Diploma students are assessed via two pieces of coursework – a professional portfolio and an industry project – as well as a final exam and interview.

What is the entry criteria?

There are no pre-requisites of the Foundation Diploma and the programme is open to anyone who is in, or is looking to start their career in, internal communication.

How much does it cost?

The fee to study for the Foundation Diploma is £1,885 + VAT. Student membership will be added to your invoice at a cost of £30 + VAT if you are not already an IoIC member. Payment plans are available upon request and subject to terms and conditions. 

What does the fee include?

The cost of the Foundation Diploma includes all teaching and learning sessions; access to Canvas, the IoIC’s online learning environment; access to Solent University’s online library and portal where students can find all key resources and readings; and all assessments.

There are no hidden costs included in the Foundation Diploma.
