Group Membership

Lloyds Banking Group share their experience of IoIC membership

"A great way to learn and be challenged on where you can improve your internal communications with thought provoking material."

Why did you join as a group member?

We signed all of the Internal Communications team at Lloyds Banking Group up to be members as we want to ensure we look outside of our organisation to learn from others. We really want to challenge our thinking, pick-up new ideas and make contact with fellow in-house Internal Communications professionals to share experience and knowledge. What we do is always changing so it’s vital that we pay attention to what is happening around us and see how we can improve and innovate.

Have you used the benefits? What’s been of most value to you?

I find the webinars really helpful. A good mix of topics and speakers and always great food for thought. The Voice is a brilliant read too and we’re making use of some of the virtual training on offer too.

If you are able, please give us an insight of your team

I’m lucky to lead a brilliant team. We were put together two years ago now and during that time have really improved internal communications within the Group. We have more than 65,000 colleagues to communicate with and support at Group level and within each of the different business units within the organisation. Everything from creative design and photography to copywriting and events. We’ve shifted how we communicate internally – still lots more to do of course and always room for improvement.

Has membership helped your team in the day-to-day work? If so, please could you describe how?

Yes, it has helped challenge our thinking and stimulate more creativity. I would say we’ve still got a way to go in terms of fully utilising everything that is on offer though. It’s too easy to let development and external research slip down the priority list when we’re busy. We’re really making sure we promote what is on offer from IoIC across the team and create time to make the most of it.

Would you recommend group membership to other organisations and why?

Absolutely. It helps you get your head up out of what you’re doing in your organisation.  A great way to learn and be challenged on where you can improve your internal communications with thought provoking material.

What do you think of the re-launched IoIC profession map and have you used it?

It’s definitely helpful to consider the different parts of what we do and works well as a framework. Like any of these things though it’s only as useful as what you put into it in terms of using it to really think about how you operate as a team and areas for development.
