There was a double success for Oxfam Saskia Jones was named IoIC's Internal Communicator of the Year 2014 and received her trophy from Institute president Suzanne Peck at a ceremony in London.


The Oxfam double was completed when the charity's Heather Beresford was named Writer of the Year in the Institute's ICon Awards 2014.

Suzanne said: "Saskia is someone who has moved the organisation from cascade to conversation. She was chosen for being a strategic leader who's passionate about working in an organisation that achieves positive social change."

At Oxfam, head of internal comms Saskia (pictured receiving her award from IoIC president Suzanne Peck) and her team communicate to more than 5,000 staff and 22,000 volunteers.

Heather was selected as the ICon Writer after the judges said: "Her writing style is clear, concise and compelling."

Saskia said: "I'm delighted. Oxfam is a really inspiring organisation to work for but what gets me excited is staff having conversations and connecting with each other."

Elsewhere, Gary Jones of AB Publishing was awarded ICon Editor. He said: "I'm very. very pleased and surprised. Over the past year I've worked on SubSpace, the magazine for sub-postmasters, Wow which is a new magazine for the Crown Post office network and more recently on The Courier which is for all Post Office staff and has a print run of 200,000.

"It's been great working on different publications for different audiences."

The event, held at London's Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, also saw this year's ICon Awards presented to the best communicators in the UK.
