Cathy BrownThe theme for this year's IoIC Central region annual seminar reflected the challenges in our working lives in 2016 - purpose at work.

A record number of internal communicators from across the region gathered in Leicester to hear from some outstanding speakers who provided thought-provoking and valuable insight for participants.

Cathy Brown (pictured) from Engage for Success shared her own powerful story of her work in engagement and reminded delegates of the close links between employee engagement and internal communications, and the all-important  four enablers.

Natalie Deacon from Avon shared the inspiring story of Purpose at Avon, which left most of those in the room wanting to be Avon ladies! And then delegates heard from speechwriter and TEDx coach Craig Millar who shared secrets of presenting and winning over an audience. He certainly won over those in the room!

After the break Richard Thompson from Kaptcha shared more secrets – this time on video strategy and then to round off the afternoon we heard from Andrew Harvey and the VMA team about their state of the nation report into internal communications.

The purpose of the IoIC is to:

  • Promote a wider and deeper understanding of the role and value of internal communication to all
  • Provide a body of knowledge and research to prove the impact of internal communication
  • Equip members with the skills and knowledge to develop and implement best practice and act as trusted advisers to leaders
  • Provide a forum and network for internal communication practitioners to share best practice, and bring together thought leaders from related disciplines to develop insight and advice.

The Central seminar delivered all of the above in spades, and all speakers gave their time voluntarily.

The event was kindly supported by Top Banana, Alive with Ideas, Words & Pictures, andpartnership and Dog eat Cog – without their help, the event could not have taken place.

Rich Baker, IoIC Central regional director says: “We’re incredibly grateful to our speakers, supporters and participants for their time and their ongoing support of the IoIC. Internal communications is at the heart of all successful organisations and it’s clear that the Central region has a thriving and expert communications community. “

More networking events are planned for the region in the coming months. If you’d like to host a small event or would like to get involved, please get in touch with Rich Baker on 07545 128164.
