IoIC

Well this will probably be my last blog before #ioiclive16 – although it is still three weeks away, holiday and the day job will intervene…

This week has been a very exciting one in conference world – not only have I spoken to several of our amazing speakers about their sessions, but I got my first peek at the latest delegate list.

As I have written in previous blogs, this conference couldn’t happen without brilliant speakers who are so generous with their knowledge and expertise. Nor could it happen without the incredible committee. But, sorry guys, none of this huge effort would be worth a hill of beans were it not for the delegates who make this conference so special.

I remember my first IoIC conference as a delegate. It was in Harrogate and probably about 12 years ago (maybe a bit more). I was very new in IC, knew hardly a soul in the industry and was a bit nervous at pitching up to something where I didn’t know anything or anyone. Although I figured that comms people were probably going to be OK, I was still a little worried that I wouldn’t fit in and they would all have their own mates and not want to talk to a newbie.

I guess it doesn’t take a genius to work out that of course they weren’t like that! I had a ball – learned loads, made friends for life and most importantly really discovered the heart of the industry that I am still passionate about all these years later. My fellow delegates were awesome – bright, articulate, generous and huge fun. And delegates at IoIC conferences since then have proved to be the same.

We have changed the format over the years, responding to feedback but also reflecting the economic considerations of most businesses, but one of the things that has remained constant is the calibre of the delegates. One of the reasons that I put my heart and soul into this conference (as do the rest of the committee) is because we get to meet such great fellow professionals.

So if you’re already on that list that I’m looking at right now, I really look forward to seeing you in Birmingham. And if you’re not, then get signed up now, it is you who will help to make this conference fantastic.
