Industry News

The IoIC Conference Committee has been busy since my last conference blog and we are now just tying up the final loose ends on all the sessions. We’ve lined up a fantastic range of speakers to bring a mix of thought leadership, case study and interactive content and it promises to be a brilliant event.

One of the privileges of being on the committee is the chance to get to know some great characters in internal comms and related disciplines. One of those is Dr Leandro Herrero of the Chalfont Project. He has spoken at the conference a couple of times in the past and is always extremely popular for his insight and unique way of looking at engagement and organisations. Not so long ago he was talking on LinkedIn about dehumanisation in business, about how the corporation has somehow disassociated itself from the people within it. He writes of managers saying '"it’s not me, it’s the system, if it were me, I would not do this, but I have to, it’s business, it’s not personal". Which is in itself the most personal statement a manager can make.'

It’s why we approached him to speak to us again this year. We could have written our theme Humanising Internal Communication: it’s a people business’, with him in mind (we didn’t, but it turned out pretty well for us!)
