The shortlist for the IoIC Awards 2016 has been announced – revealing who’s in the running to be recognised as the cream of the UK’s internal communication profession.

 
The class winners will be announced at a ceremony at the UnderGlobe at the Globe Theatre in London on Friday September 23 but you can check now if your work is in the running to receive the top accolades.

There are around 40 awards to be won spread across eight classes and everyone on the list below will receive at least an Award of Excellence (like some of last year's winners pictured above).
 
It’s an honour to be included because the standard, as ever, was very high with entries slightly up on last year.
 
Print/Campaigns
“Print and Campaign classes were particularly strong again this year,” says Justine Stevenson (pictured below), chair of IoIC awards committee. “And it was great to see so many entries paying attention to the importance of showing how they’re measuring impact.
 
“Print remains incredibly strong, even though many have been talking about its demise for years,” she says. “It’s great to see print is still a strong element of our industry and there was particularly high quality in the writing and design elements of the magazine and newspaper entries.
 
“It’s a bit of a mystery why digital entries are still not quite matching print in terms of numbers. Maybe it’s because people feel there is something tangible to enter with a printed channel, so it’s easier than trying to enter a digital offering.
 
“The challenge for the future will be for people to think about how to enter their digital channels and campaigns, how to best present them when entering awards. There’s definitely room for more digital entries – we know there’s a lot more work going on in this area but we’re not always seeing the rise in entries.”
 
Campaigns
Another area with a very high standard of entries was campaigns - in both ongoing and one-off campaigns.
 
“The entries I’ve seen in those sections have shown real creativity,” says Justine. “People are obviously looking to make a big impact by using a variety of both traditional and newer channels, there’s been a really varied approach.
 
Measurement
“Another pleasing aspect of many entries is an increasing ability to show measurement and to be able to show some real thought of what the communication was about and why it should be a winner.
 
“That has to keep increasing. You have to be able to show what impact you had and that it was worth it.”
 
People
Justine was also pleased to see the communicators behind the projects getting recognition with strong entries in the team and agency categories.
 
“That’s great because it’s important to recognise the people behind the superb work being produced in our profession,” she adds. “Hopefully, we can expand on this later this month when we announce how people can enter this year’s ICon Awards for the individuals working in IC.”
 
Judges
Justine also had words of thanks for the people who worked so hard to read and assess the hundreds of entries and produce the shortlist for the IoIC Awards 2016.
 
“We had an incredibly strong panel of judges,” she explains. “This year we had a new influx of people judging for the first time, bringing a fresh approach and rigorous thinking to add to the experience of the established judges, IoIC Board members and Fellows. The team provided a combination of in-house, freelance, consultancy and agency experience.”
