COVID-19 has triggered a universal re-evaluation of how we work.

The 2020 pivot to remote working amplified a range of trends that had already begun to reshape 21st century business. The convergence and acceleration of these trends now urgently demands a wholescale rethink of both how we create value at work, and how we organise our working lives.

With continuous change all around, uncertainty is the new normal. From psychology, we know that unforeseen change causes stress and anxiety, but we also know that a clear sense of belonging helps human beings successfully adapt to the unexpected.

Communication directly influences the extent to which we feel socially connected. Internal communication has a centre stage role in the future of work. The effectiveness of workplace communication is key to the longer term resilience of our organisations.

This podcast explores the shifting nature of work and the role that internal communication plays in both change and the future of work.

In each episode, your hosts Jennifer Sproul, Dominic Walters and Cathryn Barnard explore a different strand of work’s evolving future. In conversation with guests, they dig into what’s changing, and consider the opportunity for the internal communication profession at large.

This is a podcast about the present and future of the internal communication profession. It’s about the opportunity to step up and add so much more value to organisations as their entire structure and design transforms.

Here at the IoIC, we believe that by seeking to understand what’s changing and why, we’re far better placed to design optimally inclusive work experiences. After all, #WeMatterAtWork.

Listen to our first episode 'The History of Human Communication' here.

This podcast series is produced for the Institute of Internal Communication by Jess Williams and Olasubomi Tolu-Ogunpolu. We will be releasing a new episode every two weeks so look out.
