IoIC

On 4th December 2019, we welcomed over 40 people to the first IoIC hub for Newcastle and the North East.

To kick start the first meeting the agenda was kept simple – with the aim being to meet like-minded people, extend our networks, and understand what delegates would like to see for future events. And a bit of fun thrown in for good measure!

During the event, presented by Craig Smith of BigPicture Learning, delegates met Andy Holt, Board Director at the IoIC, and found out more about the institute and benefits of being a member – with lots of people intrigued about the upcoming Komms Klub awards (who doesn’t love a good rave!?).

An internal comms quiz got the crowd engaged, made up of questions from the 2019 state of the sector report. Using their mobiles delegates answered multiple choice questions, with more points for the fastest finger. Alex Purvis, Faculty IC Manager at Newcastle University topped the leader board and took home the prize!

The room was then split into groups to discuss what topics we’d like to approach at future events - facilitated by the hub volunteers Jodie Collins, IC Manager for Karbon Homes, Emma Wales, IC Coordinator for the AA, and Annie Ross, Global Marketing and Communications Manager at Penspen.

The top three themes emerging were Ways of changing culture/attitudes, Technology and Employee engagement. Reassuringly Andy explained how these were themes coming from other hubs across the regions – so we’re not alone with some of our challenges!

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to our host Natwest Entrepreneur Accelerator. The Newcastle and North East hub team is now taking all of the feedback on board to develop the next event on 13 February 2020. We’ll post more information soon – watch this space!
