Clare Elevique, Internal Communications Channel Manager for Kier Group, is the latest member to complete the Level 6 Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Internal Communication, academically accredited by Southampton Solent University. Here, Clare tells us about her experience of studying for the qualification and what's changed for her since starting.

IoIC: Tell us about your role...

Clare: I am the Internal Communications Channel Manager for Kier Group, I define and deliver strategic communication plans for our Corporate Functions. I provide best practice advice and guidance, based on frequent analytical data and accumulative knowledge to develop the most effective communication plan for each stakeholder's requirements.
I align with the Employee Engagement team, ensuring we are working in synergy and that all employees are informed and suported with quality, consistent and relevant comms.

IoIC: Why did you decide to sign up for the Advanced Diploma?

Clare: After researching various courses, I chose to enrol on the IoIC Advanced Diploma as this offered a personally tailored approach to further my career as an internal communicator. With years of experience in both Internal and External Comms and Marketing, I found I got more job satisfaction from the Internal Communication side and was looking for a course that would help me to make the transition from a tactical to a strategic approach.

IoIC: Which was the most enjoyable part of the process for you?

Clare: I am always on the quest for knowledge and the chance to learn from others. The most enjoyable part of the Advanced Diploma was the opportunity to work with others with similar goals in the same field of work across different sectors. I enjoyed working on the collaboration piece.

IoIC: And which was the most challenging?

Clare: The most challenging part of the course was the collaboration piece; which is why I also found it to be the most enjoyable. I love being challenged outside of my comfrot zone, I learnt so much from the other candidates and working with them was the perfect catalyst for me to begin the habit of critical analysis of my own work and methods.

IoIC: What did you find particularly useful?

Clare: The course encourages you to analyse your own skill set and highlights your areas for growth, which are key in defining a personal development plan. The tutor was always on hand to help reflect on these areas of growth and how best to approach each one as the course progressed.

IoIC: How has the Advanced Diploma helped you in your career?

Clare:
I am much more confident when advising senior leaders on the best approach for delivering large scale projects to a diverse audience. I am now planning to enrol on the 2017 Accelerate Programme.

IoIC: What has changed for you as a result of the Advanced Diploma?

Clare: My confidence to deliver and to boost the confidence of stakeholders.

IoIC: What would you say to anyone who was thinking about undertaking the Advanced Diploma?

Clare: To be honest, even if you don't have 'Internal Communications' in your job title, but are in a team that communicates to employees or managers, this course is highly recommended.

The next Advanced Diploma cohort will begin with an immersion day at a Central London venue on the 25th of July. Registration is now open, for more information on the course and how to enrol, click here or email [email protected]
