The IoIC is on a mission to raise awareness of internal communication as a career of choice and encourage more people to actively choose to pursue the IC profession.

In the first quarter of 2021, with the support of passionate internal communication professionals and IoIC members, we’ve been able to speak to over 100 young people across eight educational and charitable institutions about careers in internal comms. We’ve had the pleasure of running our Introduction to Internal Communication training for trainees on the Taylor Bennett Foundation programme; speaking to post-graduate media and communications students at the London School of Economics; delivering a session on influencing skills for University of Lincoln students as part of their Breaking Barriers week; running a comms business challenge for Loughborough University Future Black Talent students; and enjoyed many more opportunities to bring careers in internal comms to the forefront of peoples’ minds.

We’ve also introduced our #IChoseIC Ambassador programme and have been so pleased to receive 25 applications from IC professionals who want to support the campaign and share their experience of working in internal comms to encourage others to choose IC.

Our #IChoseIC blog series has continued in 2021 and we’ve loved being able to share the stories of IC professionals. The series has been picked up by King’s College London who shared one of the blogs with their students as part of their careers series.

As we look ahead to the rest of the second quarter of the year, we’re excited to be supporting even more careers insights events with the University of Warwick, Teesside University, and Lancaster University, to name a few. We’re also keen to diversify the audiences we’re engaging with and to work with other charitable organisations which are doing amazing work within careers education.

Finally, we’re looking forward to exploring how we can make the IC profession more accessible to those who are starting out in their career or trying to enter the profession for the first time, through the facilitation of work experience, placement, or internship opportunities.

A huge thank you to everyone who has engaged with or supported the campaign so far in 2021. To find out more, click the link or email [email protected].
