How IC professionals can best manage the impact of major change in times of uncertainty is the theme of this year’s Insight Seminar on 10 November in London.

Post-Brexit and in the lead-up to March 2017, the ability to communicate effectively in times of major change has never been so important. The event will explore how IC professionals can understand the implications for leaders and employee morale, best manage the impact, and support the organisation in preventing a downward spiral of anxiety and fear impacting on business performance.

Opening the seminar, Deborah Hulme of Minerva Engagement will be sharing latest research and best practice into the impact of change and uncertainty in the workplace, drawing on neuroscience and leadership insight. They will be challenging communicators to think and act differently, connecting across the business using engaging communication, preventing downward spirals of anxiety and fear. Minerva Engagement are specialists who improve business performance from the inside out. They influence behaviour, challenge attitudes and disrupt mind-sets, by engaging people and by embedding engaging communications. Clients include the BBC, British Gas, Nationwide, Kier, Provident Financial Group, Motorpoint and Siemens.

This will be followed by case studies including Laura Ferguson, head of people engagement and change at BG Group, outlining the challenges of keeping 5,000 employees in 70 countries engaged, informed and motivated to deliver during the takeover by Shell this year.

Hannah Awcock, head of strategic change communications at HMRC, will be talking about their experience of supporting people through massive change as the Department transforms the way it does business, including moving services online and consolidating from 170 offices to 13 new Regional Centres by 2021. This includes how they set about speaking to 65,000 people about those changes face-to-face, all at the same time.

This year’s Insight seminar is focusing on how communicators can be bold in times of uncertainty, especially post-Brexit, supporting organisations in preventing a downward spiral of anxiety and fear impacting on business performance.
