This two part virtual learning programme, packed with tips, techniques and the opportunity to learn from course tutor, Liz Cochrane, as well as fellow participants, brings level one of the IoIC profession map to life and is ideal for internal communication professionals who are in the early stages of their IC career. Explore both the 'What?' and 'Why?' of communication so you can pack a punch and deliver added value communication. Delivered over two live sessions and with activities to complete before and in between, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to excel in your first internal communication role and give you the opportunity to put your learning into practice. 

 

The programme consists of: 

Part One, 28 October, 9.30 - 13.00

  • Defining internal communication and its purpose
  • Understanding the difference between strategies, plans and policies
  • The importance of understanding people and cultures
  • Good practice writing and introduction to rhetoric

Part Two, 4 November, 9.30 - 13.00

  • Rich and lean media, and when to use each: Understanding the role and purpose of communication channels
  • Introduction to research and measurement techniques
  • Building and developing relationships with stakeholders
  • Action planning and professional development 

Please note that we use Zoom and Canvas: The Learning Management Platform for our online courses. Please ensure that you are able to access these systems where you are based before booking your place.

 

Learning outcomes include:

  • Building relationships with stakeholders: Thinking business and influencing for success
  • Understanding your audiences' perceptions and preferences
  • Content and curation of conversations: Crafting higly effective communication
  • Channels - what, when and why? Understanding multidirectional communication and which channels to use for optimum effect
  • Research, measurement and evaluation: The basics of building an evidence approach to your practice

About the trainer

Liz managed communication for major companies within the utility and pharmaceutical sectors before moving into consultancy and training. She now combines her role as Course Director of the Masters in Internal Communication Management with being the director of a small employee research company. Liz is a Director for the Institute of Internal Communication, with responsibility for professional development (accreditation).
