The IoIC’s Virtual Sector Conferences are for Internal Communication professionals to learn from each other about the challenges within their sector. The programme will include forward thinking, inspiring speakers as well as the chance to network and have receive sector-specific advice/expertise.

In this virtual conference we will focus on internal communication in the Financial Services sector, from banks to insurance companies and everything in between. This session will be chaired by Paul Diggins, Head of Internal Communication at Santander Plc.



Bringing financial results to life at Santander from Will Day, Content and Channels Manager, Santander

Every quarter, Santander roll out their financial results to the whole organisation, sharing the trends and changes across the business.

With results such an important part of the company’s story, a dry factsheet of numbers simply wouldn’t do. The team wanted to shake up their results communications by helping their colleagues understand financial terms, bringing relevance to the numbers and making colleagues feel part of the big picture. In this session, Will Day, content and channels manager will share how Santander brought their financial results to life.


Get ready for the NEW AGCS from Heather Armond, Head of Internal Communications, Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty

After period of challenging financial results, and the arrival of a new CEO, in June 2020 AGCS launched a new corporate strategy, NEW AGCS: Act. Lead. Succeed. The strategy focuses on turning around the company, getting us back in a leading market position by 2024. It has both ‘what’ and ‘how’ components, which include specific turnaround actions, as well as developing a new, values-based mindset internally.

Since the launch, and during 2021, driving the strategy is the main focus for Communications, with the current focus internally on building involvement and engagement, measuring progress, and sharing stories to build ‘reasons to believe’. The AGCS transformation and strategy implementation is an ongoing and developing picture, and Heather will share a retrospective of the NEW AGCS story to date – including planning and preparation (in times of Covid), the launch, the follow up and where things currently stand – including lessons learned.

Welcoming and onboarding new employees remotely with Anne Sophie DucheneHead of Internal and Change Communications at Euroclear

Euroclear welcomed 400 newcomers in 2020, most of them joining after Covid forced them to close their offices and implement full remote working. To this day only the critical functions are present on site and close to 4000 employees are working from home full time. Euroclear have continued to hire, mostly in IT and these newcomers have had to get to know the company, integrate into a team and learn aspects of their new role, all in a remote way. So how do we, internal communication functions, ensure that they understand and embrace the corporate culture and identity, and our ways of working. How do we ensure they have the tools, the information and support they need to navigate their new work environment? Anne-Sophie will be sharing examples of what Euroclear put in place to make everyone feel not only welcome on their first day, but also part of the team for the following days, months, years.

A lockdown welcome for our new Chief Exec with Kirsty Bowen, Senior Manager – Colleague Communications at Coventry Building Society

As if 2020 didn’t throw up enough challenges, Coventry Building Society welcomed a new Chief Executive just one month into the first lockdown. A virtual engagement programme wasn’t what he – or they – had planned, but what an opportunity! Through developing its channel mix quick smart, the society were able to introduce him to more colleagues than he’d have been able to reach in person. And the culture change being seen since he’s come on board means internal comms will never look back. Coventry Building Society has gone from a menu of very traditional channels to Zoom coffee breaks, a three-part interactive strategy rollout, regular webinars, more video content, Slido, Mural and Yammer. It’s been a great learning curve for the team, and colleagues now have more ways than ever to connect with leaders, with internal comms and with each other.

Keynote: Are we prepared for the next normal? Ann-Marie Blake, business communicator in the financial services industry

Ann-Marie, who has decades of experience as a business communicator in the financial services industry, will talk about mega-trends impacting internal communicators and how we can face these opportunities and challenges in the highly regulated financial services environment.

We want this conference to be as interactive as virtual will allow, so some sessions will have a breakout afterwards where delegates will have the opportunity to discuss what they’ve just listened to, learnings from it and how they can apply it to their daily work.
