Have you ever wanted to create comms that are more effective, compelling, insightful and actionable? Do you want to share important information so that people will actually want to listen, respond to and embrace it? This virtual learning course will show you how to move beyond data, facts and information by harnessing the power of storytelling - a proven technique which can have a dramatic impact on the way you, your team and company communicate and share information.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand the underpinning principles of storytelling and the scientific reasons why stories work
  • Be able to apply best practice storytelling techniques to their internal communication and messaging
  • Know the best ways to elicit stories from across their organisation to support knowledge sharing

The course will cover

  • Unlearning why we have allowed ourselves to worship numbers and facts, rather than emotion and story
  • Learning how to think, speak and present in stories not catalogues and make your communications simpler and more persuasive.
  • Discovering how to get beneath “attention spam”
  • Following the 6 S.I.M.P.L.E. rules
  • Finding out how to build The Golden Thread
  • Storyboarding your presentation
  • The power of headlines
  • Understanding the “2/3 rule of timing”
  • Abandoning our obsession with messaging and 'too much data'
  • Why story conveys meaning and emotion
  • The science and art of story: Behavioural economics and the brain
  • How do you see data: direction or confirmation?
  • From data to meaning
  • The key principles of storytelling
  • Finding a voice and face for your brand
  • Implications and Applications

  • Six hours of CPD for IoIC members
  • As well as being informative, this day is entertaining and surprising, as all stories should be...
