In this big data driven world, all professions are looking at how they can make better decisions and increase performance using data and analytics. This applies no less to internal communications. A basic knowledge of how to collect and analyse data and present findings is only going to become more important as all organisations look to use data in ever more sophisticated ways.

Please note that we use Zoom and Canvas: The Learning Management Platform for our online courses. Please ensure that you are able to access these systems where you are based before booking your place.

 

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will: 

  • Know why research and data are an important tool in your strategic toolbox
  • Understand quantitative research methods and situations they are best suited to
  • Understand the basics of how to run surveys and polls
  • Feel inspired to do more appropriate research
  • Feel confident to use data in giving strategic advice and shaping strategy
  • Be able to create a research plan and undertake more strategic research

 

The course will cover 

Part One (9.30 - 12.00)

  • Why research is important for internal communication professionals
  • What are quantitative research methods?
  • How to define your research purpose, objective and questions
  • Sampling methods
  • Surveys and polls, including survey design

Part Two (13.30 - 16.00)

  • Piloting your survey
  • Research ethics and data protection
  • Data analysis – answering your research question(s) and gaining insight
  • Reporting and presentation of your data

Who should attend?

This course is aligned to the Researching, Measuring and Demonstrating Value area of the IoIC profession map and specifically covers the knowledge and skills described up to level 3. The course is most suitable for internal communication professionals who are keen to use data to influence stakeholders and those who look after communication measurement and reporting.

 

About the trainer

Chris Crofts has specialised in internal communications for more than 20 years and has led IC teams at HSBC, Aviva and Diageo. Chris is well-known and highly regarded in the IC community and has contributed to books and podcasts, judged awards and been the key-note speaker at many industry conferences. Now an independent consultant and trainer, Chris has a contagious passion and energy for all things data and helps teams to develop  ‘data mindsets’ and become truly strategic IC influencers.
