As the only professional body dedicated to internal communication in the UK, we exist to help organisations and people succeed through promoting internal communication of the highest standard.

Although there are more professional communicators than ever before, too much business communication is filled with jargon and Orwellian newspeak. IoIC fellow Paul Brasington argues that organisations need to think much harder about tone of voice – and has produced a 34-page guide to help.

Five Tones Of Voice is available free to IoIC members and can be downloaded below:

The November 2015 edition of Croner Solutions, your monthly guide to updates in employment and health and safety regulations and best practice, is available to download.

This month the guide contains a feature about the issue of managing long-term absence by talking to employment law consultant William Wright. He looks at many common queries, including what happens if an employee is too unwell to return to work and what are the risks involved when dealing with long-term sick employees.

Other issues covered in this month’s Croner Solutions include:

  • What is the scope of the right for agency workers to be informed of vacancies?
  • Employment tribunal fees – where are we now?
  • The limits of HR officers’ advice in disciplinary hearings
  • Are you ready with your bags?, and
  • The ‘legislation tracker’.
