This session explores how building sustainable internal communication functions starts with supporting people early in their careers. Through mentoring–including the powerful practice of reverse mentoring - we can create stronger intergenerational connections and more inclusive cultures. The discussion will examine what emerging creative talent seeks from the workplace, and how embedding ED&I in recruitment and onboarding communication helps build shared understanding across generations. Attendees will gain insights into how leaders can learn from new entrants, while helping early-career professionals understand the perspectives of those who came before. Ultimately, it’s about fostering a stable workplace culture through connection, sharpening communication skills and creating bridges that help every generation thrive together.
Mercy Abel is a multi-award-winning marketing consultant, speaker and the co-founder & former director of an award-winning marketing and creative internship programme, FuturesUNLOCKED, which provides paid internships and free workshops for emerging creatives across Scotland.
Mercy is passionate about platforming talent, building community and connecting people to opportunity. She does this by helping other Gen Zs to navigate the world of work on her careers podcast, audacity of we; being the Chair for the Middle Leaders group within the UK Black Comms Network; and through her ambassadorship for Europe-wide creative & hospitality organisation The Social Hub – hosting a content series of creative conversations called Mercy Chats with 35k+ views.
