IOIC Career Pathways: Moving to a head of role.
Career progression in internal communication rarely follows a set path, and moving into your first head of role brings a distinct set of decisions and challenges.
This session brings together two practitioners who have made that move: Nazia Nathu, Head of IC (Audit) at BDO, and Laura Pickering, Head of Internal Communication and Engagement at Macmillan.
Facilitated by Rob Jones, Voice Magazine editor, they share how they reached their head of role, the decisions and moments that shaped the path and what they know now that they wish they had known earlier. They will also provide reflections on the role itself: what they love, the challenges and setbacks, and how they built the stakeholder relationships and reputation that got them there.
The format is deliberately conversational, with extended discussion and Q&A built in. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions and explore our panellists' career paths in more depth. We run under Chatham House rule, so everyone can speak openly, and a write-up of key takeaways will follow for all who register.
