I've been managing director of employee communication specialists Sequel Group since 2011 and I'm proud to work with such talented people every day. I'm an alumni of the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Businesses project which supports promising businesses to help accelerate their growth, and it was a gift that keeps on giving! I get the chance to hear, meet and learn from business experts and work with other small business owners so that we keep adapting and changing Sequel as our market evolves.
Coming from journalism and needing to develop my IC skills first attracted me to the IoIC (or BAIE as it was then) nearly 30 years ago. What appealed was how the association offered community, networking and a chance to shape and develop the IC profession. Much has changed over those years, but the sense of community and pride in our profession is still strong.
I was IoIC Chairman and have managed IoIC's events and conference over the years. I've been a Board member for more than 20 years and President for the past six years. It's a varied role including IoIC's governance, strategic planning, policy, and accountability and working with stakeholders inside and outside IC, promoting best practice, professional development and the value of internal comms.
I'm a volunteer like everyone else on the Board and still get so much out of my membership - one of the best decisions I think I ever made!
I'm now president-elect of the European Association of Internal Communication (FEIEA) – a pan-European association that comprises IoIC and 10 other country's membership associations - and will be making the most of the opportunity to bring Europe's IC community even closer together.
