I gained a lot of new knowledge through the Advanced Diploma, but what I found most useful was the confidence boost it gave me.

The confidence in not just myself and my abilities, but also a renewed confidence in how impactful and important internal communication can be in an organisation.

It also gave me a fresh perspective to challenge assumptions and the status quo of internal communication in Merseyside Police, the long‑standing habits, processes and ways of working that had become ‘just how we do things’, even when they no longer served our officers and staff well.

I was able to put my learnings into practice almost immediately, and my manager as well as a lot of senior stakeholders quickly bought into the changes I proposed thanks to the Advanced Diploma. These changes led not only to organisational improvements generally, but the delivery of operational goals thanks to a more strategic approach to internal communication.

The Advanced Diploma also ignited a passion in me for behavioural science, and the link between this, culture and communication. The brilliant workshop with Domna Lazidou really inspired me to think more deeply about the connection between culture with communication and individual/group behaviours.

Thanks to the Advanced Diploma I’ve got a much wider network of internal comms professionals from a range of industries with a range of experiences. Working through the Advanced Diploma with this ‘team’ reinforced that the IC community is a diverse and supportive one.
