Our ambassadors have been visiting universities, schools and career events across the country. Here is where we have been recently.
Skills Session, London School of Economics
Ambassador Sarah Wood delivered a session at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for students and graduates from a variety of disciplines.
Sarah introduced them to the world of internal communication, shared personal insights and her career journey, and discussed transferrable skills and experiences.
The session was highly interactive with lots of engagement and questions.
BBC Bitesize Careers Tour
#IchoseIC Ambassador Steven Murgatroyd spent a very rewarding and interesting morning at a local school in Leeds as part of a panel for the BBC Bitesize Careers Tour. The tour aims to introduce young people to different careers.
Commenting after the event, Steven said:
'A real highlight of the morning was a year seven asking me how long I'd been doing IC for, and when I said 15 years, she responded with 'That's older then me!'. I was also asked if I could be anywhere in the world (and beyond) where would I pick? Rather than thinking too hard, I played to the crowd and said Elland Road, which resulted in the biggest cheer of the day.
I was really happy with how the sessions went, including how I managed to perfectly colour match the BBC Bitesize backdrop with my PfP hoodie. Hopefully I managed to inspire a few future communicators and maybe even a PfP Colleague or two.'
Media Show, Cardiff Met University
Professional Development Manager Emily Darling attended Cardiff Met's Media Show which was for final-year undergraduates, MA students and recent graduates studying Communication, Media, English or Creative Writing courses.
The aim was for students to have the chance to ‘meet and mingle’ with professionals from PR, communications and journalism. It was run as a speed-dating style session where groups of students had the opportunity to speak to each of the professionals.
London School of Economics (LSE)
IoIC Board Members and #IChoseIC Ambassadors Shalini Gupta FIIC and Addea Amoa FIIC introduced students to a career in internal communication as part of LSE's Careers in the Creative Industries Programme.
Marketing, PR, Comms Takeover Event at Royal Holloway University
#IChoseIC Ambassador Edeje Onwude attended the Marketing, PR, Comms Takeover and networking event at Royal Holloway University in February 2025. Edeje provided students with career insights and answered their questions about internal communication, career paths and how to get into the profession.
University of Tor Vergata in Rome.
IoIC Board Member and #IChoseIC Ambassador, Laura Colantuono delivered two guest lectures at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome.
The first, a two-hour session for international students in the Marketing for Digital Innovation course, focused on the strategic role of internal communication. The second, a half-day class for the Master’s in Economics, Communication and Media Management students, allowed for a deeper dive into IC science, trends and practical applications.
Solent University Spring Forward Event
Chief Executive Jen Sproul, Professional Development Manager, Emily Darling and Ambassador Amy Thomson attended the Spring Forward to the Future Event at Solent University as part of the #IChoseIC campaign, raising awareness of IC as a career pathway and talking to students about their futures.
King Edward's School, Birmingham
Ambassador Kate Goodman attended a careers fair at a school in Birmingham with around 450 students, where she helped them to discover internal communication and answered their questions.
Kate's reflections on the day:
"It was a busy – but rewarding – morning with 450 girls from across years 9, 10 and 11 visiting the careers fair. No one I spoke to had ever heard of internal comms – but the girls who told me they wanted to work in marketing, or social media, or enjoyed English, were truly interested in hearing about IC as a potential career choice. They liked hearing about the creativity, the variety, the potential to progress and lots asked me about the qualifications they’d need to enter the profession. They especially enjoyed the ‘true or false’ IC spin-the-wheel game! I definitely think we may have a few future IC practitioners as a result!"
Warwick University
As part of the campaign #IChoseIC Ambassador Juliet Green spoke to students at the University of Warwick, introducing them to the wonderful world of Internal Communication. We were delighted to hear that students were queuing up afterwards to ask more questions!
Juliet said "Thoroughly enjoyed my session with the Grad and Postgrad students at University of Warwick today talking about careers in internal comms as an Institute of Internal Communication Ambassador."
Chester University
Ambassador Melanie Hinds spoke to students at Chester University as part of their English at Work Module, introducing them to internal communication and helping them to discover IC career pathways.
Melanie says:
"The students, of which were around 6 I think, were at the end of careers focused sessions, so it was great to engage with them on how internal communications comes in various shapes and sizes and how what they may be doing now can help to support it, e.g. digital marking, social media, videography, writing content, understanding audiences etc – making those connections helped them to not just understand the profession but also helped them to think practically about skills development and transferring skills.
I talked them through the history, importance and relevance of internal communications, the many lenses it uses when tailoring messages for varies audiences, the different channels used and the importance of measurement.
We also talked about getting work experience and the power of building a LinkedIn profile, and using LinkedIn to make connections and get yourself seen and heard.
A great group, and passionate teachers who were also interested in what I had to share.
They were also very keen on hearing real life work challenges and what my organisation is involved with.
I would highly recommend IoIC members of any level speaking to students. This group have very little knowledge of navigating working life and we can give them various insights, tips and ideas. It is also hugely rewarding to share experiences and feel that you are helping others."

Jen introduced students to the internal communication profession, explored the key knowledge, skills and behaviours required of an IC practitioner, and shared insights into the exciting opportunities within the profession,
Laura then talked to them about her journey into the internal communication profession, her experiences in IC roles; and how rewarding internal comms can be as a career.
Strathclyde University
As part of our #IChoseIC Campaign Ambassador Stacy Gibbs spoke to students at Strathclyde University about her IC career journey and the reality of the role day to day.
The session was part of a Careers in PR & Communications event which aimed to help students and graduates explore new career ideas and hear from industry professionals about their real-life experiences of a role.
