How has the Foundation Diploma changed or influenced your approach to internal communication?
Completing the Foundation Diploma really boosted my confidence. It’s helped me see internal communication as more than just sharing updates – it’s about creating meaningful connections. I now think more carefully about tone and timing, and I feel better equipped to create and curate content.
How have you applied what you have learnt to your work?
Since completing the Diploma, I’ve applied what I’ve learnt by bringing more structure and clarity to how I work with other teams. Using the frameworks has made it easier to align objectives and share insights, which has strengthened collaboration and improved consistency. It’s also given me the ability to segment audiences, making internal messages more engaging while staying aligned to business goals.
The Developing Yourself as an IC Professional module enabled me to see the benefits of AI for my role and how we manage the lack of resources in my team. Also, I’ve learnt the importance of asking for feedback from my internal stakeholders to continue building my strengths, working on my weaknesses and growing into a trusted advisor. Overall, these changes have made my role feel more impactful and rewarding.
What do you feel you have gained from the course?
Structuring news stories and learning about the inverted pyramid of journalism has been instrumental. It has helped me massively when advising internal stakeholders on why we structure news stories the way we do. It helps having research to base my rationale.
Would you recommend this course to other early-career IC professionals, and what advice would you give them about making the most of it?
I would definitely recommend this course. The course is intense but 100% worth it, and my advice is to have a strong support network around you. Tell everyone you are doing the diploma to manage expectations, make notes throughout and take advantage of the opportunities the university and IoIC give you. And remember, you are responsible for your career development and find more reasons to say yes to opportunities.
