Could you describe your current role in internal communication and how you think membership with IoIC might support you in this role?

I am an accomplished professional with over 15 years of experience in internal communication. My career has spanned both PR agencies and the banking sector. As Director of Internal Communication at Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (the Polish development bank), I have had the privilege of leading a team of seven professionals. My focus is not only on ensuring the effective delivery of communication but also on developing my team members into strategic advisors who provide valuable counsel to senior management. Membership may support me in promoting professional standards in Poland and connect people from different countries.

What motivated you to pursue a career in internal communication and what do you enjoy most about it?

I began my career in a PR agency. I was responsible for crisis management, media relations and internal communications. I felt that internal communication had the greatest impact on its audience. I know that internal communication can create a lot of engagement, trust and satisfaction.

How has IoIC membership contributed to your professional development and career growth?

My commitment to advancing the profession is further demonstrated by my work with the Institute of Internal Communication, where I am actively involved in initiatives to professionalise the role of internal communicators in Poland. As part of this effort, I am currently developing a Polish competency framework for internal communicators, which will serve as a valuable tool for the industry. Moreover, I finished the Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Internal Communication which gave me a wide perspective of different, more advanced approaches to internal communication.

Can you name one career achievement or project that you're particularly proud of, and why?

I have initiated and continue to lead quarterly meetings of internal communicators from the banking sector. These gatherings serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, where professionals can share their experiences and discuss emerging trends. These meetings are further enriched by the participation of external guests who present on the latest trends and best practices in the field (ie. Howard Krais in October talking about listening organisation).

My dedication to excellence in internal communication has been recognised through numerous awards. Under my leadership, my team has won 15 international awards and 5 national awards, including the title of Best Internal Communication Team in Poland. These achievements are an evidence of our innovative approach, strategic thinking, and commitment to delivering outstanding results. I am also a judge in a prestigious Polish competition called Golden Clips.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the internal communication profession?

The most important thing is to stop and think about your future career path. Without a plan, you can end up as a 'post-officer' for many years. Consider your strengths and weaknesses. Think about the opportunities you can make the most of. Start your career with a self-assessment and then a development plan.

Tell us a fun fact about you that not many people know?

A few years ago, I set up a foundation responsible for educational and cultural projects. I strongly believed that volunteering, social responsibility and commitment could add value to communication and can be a great idea for life. Unfortunately, it is very true that it is a non-profit organisation, so I had to go back to commercial work. It is a very hard work, so big appreciation to all NGO’s.
