IoIC offsets 2023 Festival carbon footprint

As part of our commitment to sustainability the IoIC have planted trees to offset our Festival 2023 carbon footprint.

Earlier this year (April 2023) the IoIC launched our very own sustainability pledge to reduce our own carbon emissions and share our progress and learnings with the community along the way.

To kickstart our journey, we worked with event: decision to measure the carbon footprint of our 2023 Festival.

With 230 attendees hosted across the two-day event, and no prior data to help us benchmark we wanted to live our values and do what we could to make the event as sustainable as it could be.

Evaluating components including travel, transportation, accommodation, food and beverages, energy, materials and waste, allowed us to see where the bulk of our emissions were created and take action to offset them.

Though there is still work to be done, we're excited to announce that we have chosen to support the planting of trees across the UK to offset our Festival carbon emissions while we look to the future and creating events with lower environmenal impact.

You can read more about the process and what we've learned in our latest blog post here.

We're committed to sustainability and we'd love to hear from you. What do you think we should – and could – be doing to make our events greener?
