2025 has been a great year for driving awareness of internal communication as a career pathway. We take a look back at the year and what we’ve been up to with the #IChoseIC Campaign.
The #IChoseIC campaign raises awareness of internal communication as a distinct profession and rewarding career pathway.
Through the campaign we engage with those making, or who are going to be making, career decisions and introduce them to the wonderful world of internal communication and the varied opportunities available, with the help our amazing volunteer community with #IChoseIC ambassadors. Internal communicators are notoriously passionate about their work, and we couldn’t run the campaign without the support of our incredible #IChoseIC Ambassadors.
This group of inspiring professionals are paramount to supporting the next generation of talent and helping to secure the future of the profession.
It’s been a busy year with the campaign, and we are proud to have reached over 2500 people via our activities.
We’ve also welcomed more Ambassadors, all of whom bring fresh ideas, creativity and passion to the campaign.
The year kicked off with a careers event at Solent University – our academic partner for our Qualifications – where we talked to students about internal communication and provided guidance for those exploring comms career options.
From there the campaign visited Royal Holloway University for a Marketing, PR, Comms Takeover and networking event – with Ambassador Edeje Onwude answering questions about communication, career pathways and insights.
We were delighted to return to the London School of Economics where Ambassadors and IoIC Board Members Addea Amoa and Shalini Gupta delivered a skills session for students. The campaign also made a return visit to Warwick University, where Ambassador Juliet Green shared insights into the wonderful world of internal communication.

We really enjoyed taking part in an innovative session at Cardiff Met University which involved ‘speed-dating’ – with groups of students talking to professionals for 5 minutes each – and a showcase of the students’ work.
The campaign took part in two conferences this year: the Realising Opportunities Conference for 16–18-year-olds, which empowers students to explore the pathways open to them, and the SimplyIC conference, where a panel explored future talent and how to bring more people into the communications profession.
This year, we also became more involved in in-curricular activities, speaking with university students as part of their courses. Highlights included guest sessions at Cardiff Met University and Chester University, delivered by Liz Cochrane and Misty Oosthuizen respectively.
We were excited to be invited to be involved in a brand-new module for English students at University of Sheffield which combines academic study with employability support and work-based learning. Our involvement had two elements – a guest session introducing students to internal communication delivered by Ambassador Kirsty Bowen, and an internal communication challenge where students could turn their hand to an IC task.
Kirsty’s session went down extremely well, with the module leader saying: ‘Our students were clearly really inspired, and really engaged, by your presentation and it was clear to us that they left the session fascinated by the world of internal communication.’
Then this autumn we were back at Solent University where IoIC President Dom Walters delivered a guest talk to undergrad and postgrad business students on the ethics of AI in IC – supported by IoIC Chief Executive Jen Sproul.
The campaign has also expanded its outreach to school-aged students this year, helping younger people understand the world of internal communication and the roles it offers.
This has included working with charity WorkTree with Ambassadors took part in their ‘Career Conversations’ where panels of professionals answer students’ questions - an effective and engaging way to spark early interest.
The campaign has also been well represented on the BBC’s Bitesize Careers Tour which visits schools around the UK and introduces young people to different career options. Ambassadors Steven Murgatroyd, Jacqueline Ryan and Vicky Neame took part in different locations, joining panels to talk about their careers and the IC profession.
We hope our work this year has encouraged the next generation of internal communicators, and we’re truly excited for all that lies ahead.
A massive thank you to all our amazing Ambassadors who have taken part in the campaign this year! If you’d like to learn more about the campaign, or get involved, you can visit our website here or email us on [email protected]
